Intended use
A performance S54 cylinder-head package for street naturally aspirated, supercharged, race naturally aspirated and turbo applications that require new guides and an application-matched valvetrain.
Build specification
- Complete disassembly and cleaning
- Inspection and measurement of the cylinder head and all retained components
- Leak, crack and pressure testing
- Five-angle valve job
- Deck trueness and surface-finish inspection, with resurfacing as required
- Attention to chamber hot spots, edges and valve unshrouding where appropriate
- New OE valve-stem seals
- New manganese-bronze valve guides
- Application-specific valves, springs and retainers
- Final inspection and assembly
Application-specific valvetrain
- Street naturally aspirated or supercharged: Ferrea triple-groove valves with steel retainers.
- Race naturally aspirated: Ferrea triple-groove valves with titanium retainers.
- Turbo: Supertech lash-cap valves, with the remaining valvetrain specification matched to the camshaft, boost and intended use.
Titanium-retainer service note
Titanium retainers are a race-focused weight-reduction choice and are not CPe’s default recommendation for a street-driven S54. Compared with the steel-retainer street package, they should be treated as components with shorter inspection and replacement expectations.
Engines using titanium retainers require more frequent valve-lash checks and closer inspection of the retainers, keepers, valve tips and related valvetrain wear surfaces. Inspection frequency is based on camshaft choice, spring pressure, RPM exposure, track hours and overall duty cycle. The service schedule is established for the individual build, and the valvetrain should also be inspected after an over-rev, a change in lash, new valvetrain noise or any other abnormal condition.
The application must be confirmed before the cylinder head is accepted. Safe engine speed is determined by the complete engine, camshaft, installed valvetrain, clearances and calibration; this cylinder head is not sold with a blanket RPM guarantee.
Pricing and application confirmation
Listed prices are starting prices based on a serviceable cylinder head and an application-confirmed valvetrain. Race naturally aspirated and turbo combinations, non-serviceable cores, damaged castings and additional required components are reviewed and quoted before work proceeds.
Core options
- Send my cylinder head first: Your head is inspected before work begins. Additional damage or unusable components are quoted before proceeding.
- Core exchange—I need a head: CPe supplies the cylinder-head core for the listed exchange price. Core acceptance and return requirements are confirmed before the build is accepted.
